Santa Cruz Food Festivals in September

Summer might be winding down, but food festivals sure aren’t! Especially in Santa Cruz. This September, improve the local parks and attend the Mole & Mariachi Festival. Satisfy those sweet cravings with some baklava at the Santa Cruz Greek Festival. Or pair fries with a cold one at the Boardwalk Bites & Brews event.

Mole & Mariachi Festival

The first of many upcoming Santa Cruz food festivals is the Mole & Mariachi Festival on September 8. The event is held at Santa Cruz Mission State Historic Park from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is a benefit for Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks. At Mole & Mariachi, you’ll sample a variety of authentic mole sauces (& vote for the best one) while listening to mariachi performances. Each year there is also a raffle, kids’ activities and alcohol garden. Find ticket prices on the official Mole & Mariachi Festival website. All proceeds from the festival fund educational programs, visitor services and restoration projects for the park.

Santa Cruz Greek Festival 2018

If you’re thinking chocolate in sauce…no thanks, then let us tell you about the Santa Cruz Greek Festival instead. Celebrating its 37th year, the Santa Cruz Greek Festival is a 3-day celebration FULL of fun. It was even voted Best Street Festival and Best Food Festival last year. There’s authentic Greek cuisine, live music, lots of dancing, vendors, henna tattoos, coffee shops and (the best part) desserts. So where’s all of this happening? On Church Street between Cedar and Center. You can visit Sep 7 from 5-10 p.m., Sep 8 from 11 a.m.-10 p.m., or Sep 9 from 12-7 p.m. Admission is free, but food is not, so make sure to take a look at some of these coupons before you go!

Boardwalk Bites & Brews

Another food festival you won’t want to miss this September is Santa Cruz’s Boardwalk Bites & Brews. Although this one doesn’t have 37 years under its belt, it will still be a good time! On Sep 29, local brewers are put to the test to serve up a beer that best complements a Boardwalk favorite (think: lobster tacos, garlic fries, deep-fried Oreos). From 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., you’ll get to taste all sorts of combinations while listening to live music & taking in the Boardwalk scene. Passport packages start at $45 and include 6 food samples/beer tastes, a “best pairing” ballot, complimentary lanyard and tumbler. VIP passports are $79 and include many more perks. Beer-only tickets are $16 for 4 beer tastes and single food sample tickets are $4 each.
