About Santa Barbara Veterans Day Weekend

Kick off Veterans Day weekend in Santa Barbara with a full or half marathon! The Santa Barbara Veterans Day Marathon & Half presented by Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Foundation is hosting a full and half marathon on Saturday, November 7. The half marathon takes off from UCSB campus at 7:15am and the full will start at 7:30am. There will also be a Veteran’s Mile from 8:30am-12pm that will start at Shoreline Park and extend down to Leadbetter Beach. The Veteran’s Mile will have Shoreline Drive and La Marina  decorated with American and campaign flags from all the wars and conflicts of the 20th century. Military vehicles will be on display and a vintage aircraft will fly over the area around 9:30am. Everyone is encouraged to come cheer on the runners at the Veteran’s Mile in their best patriotic spirits. Registration is happening now: $135 per person for the full and $115 for the half. Military and veterans receive a discounted price: $115 for the full and $95 for the half.

Later that night the Annual Military Ball will take place at 5pm at The Fess Parker. The theme of the Ball is the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, with special guest speaker Sgt. Sammy L. Davis: 1967 Medal of Honor recipient of the US Army. Art Deco Entertainment will be providing the music and guests will get to experience a cocktail hour, host and no-host bars, and a three-course meal. Tickets are available for $125 per person and the reservation deadline is October 15, so be sure to plan ahead!

Sunday, November 8th is the Veterans Day parade and concert! Admission is free for both the parade and concert, so be sure to bring the family for a day of remembrance. The parade starts at 12pm on 1400 State Street and ends at 600 E. Cabrillo Boulevard. More than 20 different WWII military vehicles from Vietnam will be present, along with local veterans’ groups, the Sea Cadets, UCSB ROTC Surfrider Battalion, WWII re-enactors, and floats from the local bases to get the spirits flying. The Primetime Band will fill the air with music and scouts will be all over handing out American flags to people along the parade route. At approximately 12:45pm the sky will be filled with more than 30 vintage war birds in precise formations: the largest flyover the OCVF has ever done!

At 2pm after the parade, the concert at The Plaza Del Sol Outdoor Pavilion will begin. Come enjoy 75 minutes of patriotic classics and pieces from the Westmont Orchestra. Don’t miss the US Navy’s Parachute team the Leap Frogs at the end of the concert as they put on an amazing display of accuracy and precision when they land directly in front of the Fess Parker. Bring a picnic or enjoy a meal from the hotel or food trucks to experience a perfect end to the exciting Veteran’s Day weekend.
